Have you ever heard the phrase “There is no spoon?” Sure you have, it’s the famous quote from the movie, “The Matrix. It’s when Neo (Keanu Reeves) was waiting to hear from the oracle who was going to tell him his near future. While waiting, Neo watched a little boy bend a spoon with his mind. As Neo watched in amazement, the little boy says to him not to try and bend the spoon because that was impossible, but only to realize that the spoon was fake and the only thing that was bending was himself. Wow, what profound words from a little boy. Although the Matrix is only a movie, the famous spoon phrase relates to our lives more than we know it. The Matrix itself represents our lives and the spoon represents the many fears we face. If you watched the Matrix you would know that the spoon never really existed and was a part of a virtual environment. The point that I’m trying to convey here is that we face many paralyzing fear in our lives, but most are not real and live in the seas of our thought life. Many people will never see their potential’s peak in life simply because they fear the unknown, and the possibility of change in their lives. From being afraid of insects to being afraid of heights, I’ve come to realize that everyone has an irrational fear that they had to deal with at one point in their life. These small but very real fears can rule our thought life and often times will paralyze our progress in life.
Instead of the phrase “there is no spoon, I would like to replace it with the phrase, there is no fear. Fear is an emotion induced by a perceived threat which causes entities to quickly pull far away from it and usually hide. In reality there’s danger on every corner, but fear is not real and only exists in your fantasy life. 90% of what we fear will never come to pass, so all that tells me is that people are scared of what would or could happen than what really will happen. This is why it’s so important to adopt a courageous personality. A personality where yes you do become afraid from time to time, but that doesn’t stop you from moving forward. I have found that most people after they conquer their unique fear found that the fear was not as worse as they made it out to be. Our brain is a powerful organ that can actually trick our senses by giving us a false sense awareness. That’s why we should never ponder too much in our thought life because it only leads to a worried mind which is the root of fear. So the next time you find yourself being afraid of something that has not yet come to past or something that doesn’t exist, then remember that There is no spoon (Fear) and the only person that controls the outcome is you by not believing in what’s not real.
